Pillar Procedure To Stop Snoring

How-To-Stop-Snoring

How Does The Pillar Procedure Help Treat Sleep Apnea?

The Pillar Procedure is an FDA-approved procedure in which small implants are placed in the soft palate, stiffening the palate and reducing vibration that can cause snoring. Clinical studies have shown several benefits of the pillar procedure, including:

  • Decrease in snoring intensity.
  • Increased bed partner satisfaction of up to 75% due to the reduction in snoring.
  • Improvement in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) symptoms and side effects, including reduced daytime sleepiness.

What does the Pillar Procedure involve?

As opposed to other treatments that may require multiple treatments over a series of appointments, or an operating room procedure, the Pillar Procedure is a simple, in-office and minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in a single appointment. It takes about 20 minutes, causes minimal discomfort, and most patients resume normal diet and activities the same day of the procedure. During the Pillar Procedure, one of our surgeons places tiny woven implants into the soft palate using a sterile delivery tool. Over time, the implants, together with the body’s natural response, add structural support to stiffen the soft palate and reduce the tissue vibration that can cause snoring. It also reduces the tissue collapse that can obstruct the upper airway and cause sleep apnea.

How long before I notice improvements after the Pillar Procedure?

Some patients report a noticeable improvement in their snoring and sleep apnea symptoms within weeks, while others may take up to three months to realize the full benefits of the procedure, which is designed to have a lasting effect.

Is the Pillar Procedure covered by insurance?

Although the Pillar Procedure is well within the financial reach of most people, the treatment may be covered by health. The only way to receive coverage for any sleep apnea treatment is to have a sleep test conducted by a recognized sleep center and board certified physicians like those at NYC SleepWell. That’s why it’s important to schedule an appointment with NYC SleepWell. Based on a medical history and physical exam, we’ll determine if testing is required in your case. In addition, our financial specialists are always available to help gather your insurance information and contact your insurance provider in order to determine your coverage and help maximize your benefits.
