Dr. Hye Yoon “Helen” Choi

Dr. Hye Yoon Choi, who goes by “Dr. Helen” to all her patients, was born and raised in South Korea. After attending boarding school in England, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an orthodontist.

Dr. Helen states, “Ever since I had my braces as a teenager, orthodontics has always been my passion and love. So, after receiving a wonderful education and experience in England, I decided to explore a larger world where I could further my education and pursue my career as an orthodontist. This led me to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where I earned my B.S. in Biology. I also minored in Art History, which always fascinated me.”

Dr. Helen’s next stop was at the University of California, San Francisco, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. From there, she completed her orthodontic residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, together with a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology.

Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Helen spent years in voluntary training, including completion of peer-developed, externally validated written and clinical examinations. Board Certification is a high level of achievement that demonstrates Dr. Helen’s personal commitment to providing lifelong quality patient care. She is also a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, and American Association of Orthodontics.

Most recently, Dr. Helen moved to New York to join the practice at Park Smiles NYC. She states, “Becoming an orthodontist in Manhattan is a dream come true for me. I’m thankful and thrilled every day to do what I love, which is helping people smile because of successful orthodontic treatment. Most importantly to me, I enjoy the relationships that build with my patients during the course of treatment!”

Dr. Helen takes special pride in her volunteer work. During dental school, she traveled to Honduras on a dental mission trip and did an externship in underserved areas providing dental care. She also traveled to Uganda with her church group on another mission – and continues today to participate in local volunteer work in the New York area.

In her spare time, Dr. Helen enjoys traveling as well as the life in New York, including trying out trendy restaurants, going to museums and attending concerts.
